About James T. Kennedy
James T. ("Jim") Kennedy has been practicing law since 1973, a period of 30 years with his own
office in Alameda since 1981.
Jim was born in Omaha, Nebraska, but has lived in California since 1952. He attended high
school and college in San Jose and joined the United States Air Force after graduation, serving
as an officer from 1966 to 1970. He then attended University of San Francisco law school, graduated
in 1973, and moved to Alameda with his wife and daughter.
He has been very active in the City of Alameda, having been on the City of Alameda Planning
Board, Economic Development Commission and Recycling Committee. He is also past president of the
Rotary Club of Alameda and the Alameda Boys and Girls Club and a Past Exalted Ruler of the Alameda
Elks Lodge.
Jim focuses his practice on Elder Law, Estate Planning, Probate and Disability Planning. He
also has a number of business clients. In the past twenty plus years, Jim has represented hundreds
of clients in the above areas, including the preparation of over 400 revocable living trusts for clients.
Jim has given numerous seminars to small and large groups on estate planning, Medi-Cal and
related issues. He has also written a number of articles on estate planning and Medi-Cal for local
publications.
Jim is a member of the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys, the Elder Law and Estate Planning
Committees of the Alameda County Bar Association, and the Estate Planning Section of the California
State Bar. He is also a referral attorney for California Advocates for Nursing Home Reform in San Francisco.
